Vision Boards and Bubble Baths

1.8.16 - National Bubble  Bath Day!

Our lil' babe got to have a bubble bath all to himself as the older kids were sleeping over at their grandparents' house. He always loves baths but he definitely was fascinated by the bubbles!

He tried to eat the bubbles.

1.9.16
National Vision Board Day!

I've never done a vision board and I actually didn't think I had the supplies until late at night. But once the kids were in bed, I found our roll of brown butcher paper and a sharpie and went to town!

The idea was inspired by my friend Meggan's zentangle portraits. They are AMAZING and BEAUTIFUL and I love them because they are art with words. Which is what I love. I'm a very word-centric person.

(pssssssssssssssssssssst. Meggan! Can I have a zentangle?? PLEASEE?!?! PLEASE OH PLEASE OH PLEASE?!?!)

Cam helped me and we made "goals" portraits for each member of our family. As well as including areas for our marriage and our family as a whole. Then we put it up on the living room wall!

Did you make a vision board?

Did you take a bubble bath?

Put those together and you have one spectacular Self-Care Day!!

Bird and Bean Days.

Yes. I missed yesterday. It was National Bird Day.

We watched a Dinosaur Train episode about birds.
It was totally a coincidence but it worked!

Today was National Bean Day!

I will spare you my rendition of a song called "Beans, Beans, the Magical Fruit"...because I swear I am a grown up and not a 7 year old.

...even if it's still hilarious.

I made black bean burritos for dinner because I am domestic and because celebrating something every (damn) day was my whole (damn) idea and so I may as well keep it up!

No really though, today was great. It was much more relaxed than the last 4 days have been. Whew!

Did you eat beans today? What kind? Were they....magical? BAHAHAHAHA. Oh my gosh, you guys. I am a child.

Tune in tomorrow for another installment of Celebrate Every Day with the Wilburs!

Trivia Day Winner!!!

Did you have a good National Trivia Day?

I'm going to be honest and say today was NOT my day. Just all the way around. The morning was hard, the middle of the day was hard, the grocery store was hard, school (for James) was hard....it was a hard day.

This kid was up SIX TIMES last night!!!

BUT

There is always something worth celebrating, right?

Like National Trivia Day and seeing everyone's scores and comments :)

Also - Nap time is always a plus.

Also - skyping with my lovely cousins was also a plus.

And baby cuddles. And yummy food (today was also National Spaghetti Day). And ice cold water. And fuzzy blankets.

Anyway, do we have a winner for the trivia contest?

(not counting Cam because as my spouse, he wasn't eligible to win)

**drumroll**

Congratulations Emilie Steele!

Happy Chocolate Covered Cherry Day!

Happy National Chocolate Covered Cherry Day!

(source)

I love cherry cordials. They're some of my favorite treats. Did you know that 'cordials' originally started out as medicine? In the 18th century, people would drink cordials to settle the stomach after overeating. Eventually cordial+chocolate dipped sour cherries came together and we got the chocolate covered cherry!

There's a whole article about the chocolate covered cherry in case you want to learn more!

Nowadays there are bajillions of kinds of cherries dipped in chocolate. I love them all. The classic cherry cordials hold a special place in my heart but when it comes to chocolate, I'm not really that particular.

Okay so let's be real for a second: Today was a rough day.

Just because we choose to celebrate every day doesn't mean that every day is easy or fun or yippy-skippy fun times.

Today was a day of tears, Anxiety, panic attacks, and other struggles. It was hard. And even though I found a recipe for cherry cordials, I didn't much feel like making them.

We invited some friends over for dinner (and to talk about some hard things happening in our life right now). Do you know what they brought? Chocolate covered cherries!

They were delicious.

So, the takeaway from Chocolate Covered Cherry Day?

When you're having a hard time, reach out. People are here to help you, love you, talk about hard things with you, and bring you chocolate covered cherries.

The End.

PS - Tomorrow will be so exciting!!! Tune in at 8 AM Mountain Time for a very special CONTEST!!

Happy Science Fiction Day!

Happy National Science Fiction Day!

Science Fiction Day is an 'unofficial' holiday observed on Isaac Asimov's birthday, January 2nd.

(source)

This is Isaac Asimov
It's his 96th birthday!
well, he died in 1992 but today would have been his 96th birthday!
Happy birthday, Isaac Asimov!

James and I talked about the genre science fiction and he wore his Star Wars sweatshirt from Christmas. He even modeled it for me. I think his model face is getting pretty good.

He's a model.

Fun fact: Isaac Asimov worked as a "special science consultant" on Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Obviously that meant we had to observe today by watching Cam's favorite Star Trek movie.

No, it's not The Motion Picture. BUT it is Cam's favorite and it's still Sci-Fi

Do you love Sci-Fi? Do you hate it? Did you even know who Isaac Asimov was before reading this post?

Tune in tomorrow to see what we celebrate next!

New Year's Day!

Happy New Year!

2016 has officially started and we have the celebrating to prove it!

Observe...

This was our last selfie of 2015.
We took it on our couch because we came home early from my parents' big New Year's Eve party.
Because we have babies.
Who have bedtimes.
And that RUINS OUR FUN
(not really but we were a little bummed about going home early)

Since this guy is such a big kid, we let him stay up as late as he wanted and he made it allll the way to midnight!
We watched TV and talked about how magical New Year's Eve is because you get to watch the whole world start a brand new year.
And then we counted down to midnight and broke open the sparkling cider!
It was the best time.

....until the next morning when we ALL regretted it.
Did you know New Years Day is also National Hangover Day?
Gee. I wonder why...

We had an excruciatingly grumpy morning.
Everybody fought.
Everybody except the baby, I guess. He was fine.
The rest of us though?
Blergh. It was rough.

My parents host a big New Year's Day party (as well as a New Year's Eve party.)
They are party animals.
And what we eat at New Year is the single most delicious sandwich you will ever have in your life ever.
And ever
Amen.

Panes con Pavo is a traditional Salvadorean meal.

Join us next year and you can try one!
On a scale of one to 10 of deliciousness, they are a 20 million.

New Year's Day is also the only day when I am willing to play board games.
AND THEN I LOSE WHICH MAKES ME NEVER WANT TO PLAY AGAIN!
Cam won at Ticket to Ride: Nordic Countries.
You'll have to ask him if having to sleep on the couch was worth the win.

Just kidding.

but not really.

What's next on our celebration calendar?
Get ready!!
2016 is just barely getting started!
